* One of worldwide first fire insurance communities “Tiegenhofener Brandordnung” was founded by Mennonite farmers – for mutual aid in case of fire – in the Malbork district on 1623. For comparison: “Lloyd´s of London” established 1688

Risk management was common practice in this region long before this term even existed; whether regarding flood protection by implementing a highly developed dyke/drainage/sluice system or in fire prevention thanks to a fire alarm system (with telegraphic notification of fire brigade) installed in former Old Town of Malbork in 1925. Malbork thus became (outpacing larger cities such as Gdańsk or Toruń) a pioneer in fire damage prevention in historical West Prussia.
